Paul J. Semrad, (1931)

Paul J. Semrad, 4 October 1931

Paul J. Semrad, 70, of Malad, passed away on August 24, 2002 in the Oneida County Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He never lost his sense of humor or smile and his last thoughts were of his family.

Paul was born October 4, 1931 in Oklahoma City, OK to Pauline Winger. He was adopted by Joseph C. and Ethel Jarolim Semrad when he was three years old. He grew up and was educated in Arkansas and North Dakota and then served three years in the Air Force. He married Carol Vaughn on April 21, 1961 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

Paul worked as an auto body repairman for over thirty years for Ren’s Chevrolet in Malad. People enjoyed going to the body shop to enjoy his sense of humor. He had a way of making friends quickly. His grandchildren enjoyed spending time with him and watching movies on the big screen TV. Since Carol passed away and he retired, he became active at various events around town as well as four wheeling and hunting. He especially enjoyed bingo night at the Legion with his best friend, Bruno (Jerry Jones). Paul’s zest for life will be missed by all that knew him and he will never be forgotten.

He is survived by one daughter, Shauna Madson of Logan, UT; two sons, Jeff (Laurene) Semrad and Mike (Avis) Semrad, both of malad; one brother, Vic (Verona) Semrad; two sisters, Angie (Jim) Gaspers and Rosalie (Peter) Ihry, all of Nope, ND; 13 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; also several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol and his parents.

Funeral services were held August 28, 2002 in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post #65.
