

HESS, ORVEL J. – July 9, 1927 – February 17, 2006
Orvel J. Hess, 78, Malad City, Idaho, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2006 in the Oneida County Long Term Care Facility.
He was born July 9, 1927 in Malad to Joseph W. and Esther Lusk Jones hess. He was raised and received his education in the Malad Valley. He graduated May 29, 1947.
Orvel attended Radio Tech School in Chicago. He served in the Army Branch of the military as a Private 1st Class. He was inducted October, 1950 and served until September, 1956.
He worked for his father’s construction company from an early age and then for his brothers, Melvin and Richard (Hess Bros. Construction) for most of his adult life. He operated the Redi-Mix plant, cement truck and backhoe.
Orvel belonged to the Malad Bowling League, the Gun Club and served in the American Legion as a Sergeant At Arms on both the local and district levels. He loved the camaraderie with this group of me. He attended many funerals with the Veterans to pay tribute and also helped prepare and set many Veterans’ headstones.
Orvel married Belva Elaine Yearsley December 10, 1957. The marriage soon ended in divorce.
Orvel is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and went through the temple on June 8, 1995. He enjoyed doing things with his brothers and sister and their families. He will be remembered as one who was always there to help with family. He loved to give out calendars and pens during the Christmas season.
He was the last of nine children, as he was preceded in death by Marion, Richard, Ralph, Alice, Melvin, William Lloyd, Lynn and Earl.
He will be dearly missed by all of his nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law, Bertha and Ruth.
The funeral for Orvel was held Monday, February 20 in the Malad First Ward, with President Mike Hess conducting. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
