Norma Jean Welman Naugler

NAUGLER, NORMA JEAN WELMAN, September 9, 1927 – September 2, 2004

Norma Jean Welman Naugler passed on to new life September 2, 2004 after a long battle with cancer. Norma is an indomitable and highly caring spirit. A celebration of Norma’s life was held September 11 at the First Presbyterian Church. Graveside services follow at Morris Hill Cemetery.

Norma was born in Bakersfield, California, September 9, 1927, the daughter of Willard Thuma “Dick” Welman and Kathryn Adelia (Baker) Welman. Norma graduated from Fresno High School, attended Fresno State College for two years and then went to Stanford-Lane School of Nursing in San Francisco where she graduated with her BS degree in nursing.

Norma married Seth Norman Naugler January 19, 1952 at the Fresno Methodist Church. Norma worked as a Fresno County public health nurse on the west side of Fresno County helping migrant workers with health care. She and Norman lived in Fresno for seven years, where Norman was assistant pastor for the Presbyterian Church. While there, daughter Susan and son Robert were born. They moved to Glendale, Oregon in 1959 to serve the Presbyterian Church there. While in Glendale, daughters, Jan, Ellen and Robin were born. In 1964 she moved with Norman and family to Dexter, New Mexico and served as a school nurse. In 1966 the family moved to Emmett, Idaho, where Norma was a registered nurse at Walter Knox Memorial Hospital and Norman was pastor at the Emmett Presbyterian Church. Son, Timothy, was born while in Emmett. In 1972 the family moved to Malad, Idaho, where Norma worked as a nurse at the hospital in Downey, and later in Malad at the Oneida County Hospital. While in Malad, Norma also studied to become a nurse practitioner and worked for a local physician. Norma retired and moved to Boise in 1992.

Norma was a lifelong gardener and raised many varieties of roses. Her rose gardens were reflections of the beauty and care she had for others. She also was an avid birder, going annually with the Audubon Society to count birds. She fed many birds and a few squirrels from the feeders in her back yard.

Norma sang in the Malad Community Choir. She was always active in church activities. She served on the session of Covenant Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. She was always very supportive of her family, providing guidance in raising her children.

She is survived by her husband, S. Norman Naugler, Boise; brother, Jim (Byra) Welman, Mapleton, OR; sister-iin-law, Willa Dallas, Belmont, CA; daughter, Susan (Cliff) Fineman, grandsons, Mark and Todd Fineman of Idaho Falls; granddaughter Rose (Chris) Lehane, Mishawaka, Indiana; son, Robert (Marjorie) Naugler and grandson, David of Boise; daughter, Jan (Keith) Bloom, grandchildren Christopher, Amanda and Abigail of Pullman, WA; daughter Ellen (Russ) Jones, grandchildren, Rachel and Michael of Santa Clara, CA; daughter Robin (Jeff) Norris, grandchildren Nicholas and Kelly of Gresham, OR; and son, Timothy Naugler, Kirkland, WA.
