NORMA HILMA JOHNSON PALMER

Norma Hilma Johnson Palmer, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Thursday, August 25, 2005, at her home in Malad.

Norma was born October 8, 1925, in Pocatello, Idaho. She was the daughter of Hima and Gunnar Johnson, both of whom had immigrated from Sweden as teens. She was the youngest of four daughters in a family based in strong Swedish heritage.

She attended schools in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello High School. While in school, she developed a strong love of music, drama and learning that she carried with her throughout her life. After graduation she moved to California and worked as a secretary for a few years. She then returned home to Pocatello and continued working as a secretary.

In 1948 she married George Austin Palmer in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple where they were sealed for time and eternity. They made their home on the farm in Malad, Idaho, and were blessed with seven children, five daughter and two sons. She spent her life devoted to her husband, children, grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was active in the LDS Church throughout her life, serving in numerous positions and callings. She taught Primary, Relief Society, Mutual and Sunday School, led music, sang in the choir, served on Stake Boards and with her husband served a Stake mission and always supported him in all of his callings.

She is survived by her children: Maureen (Boyd) Stokes, Malad; Lynae (Lynn) Park, Ririe, Idaho; Karalee (Doug) Nash, Idaho Falls, Idaho; Tamra (Wayne) Raymond, Ririe, Idaho; Delwyn (Shanna) Palmer, Castle Rock, Colorado; Blair (Heather) Palmer, Malad, son-in-law, John Facer, Malad; 24 grandchildren, She is also survived by her sisters, Margaret Hansen, Firth, Idaho, Thelma Myler, Salt Lake city, Utah, and numerous cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents ,one sister, Ethel Whitehead and daughter, Julie Facer.

Always a teacher, she instilled in her family a strong love of music, a desire for learning, an enjoyment of family and her strong testimony of the Gospel. She will be greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and extended family.

Funeral services were held Monday, August, 29, 2005, Burial followed at the Malad City Cemetery.
