NEDRA HASKELL STEPHENSON JACOBS

Nedra Haskell Stephenson Jacobs died peacefully on August 25, 2012 in Ogden, UT at the age of 89. She was born January 13, 1923 in Malad, ID to Edward Cecil and Amelia Goddard Haskell. Nedra was the second of five children. She married Melvin Joseph Stephenson on her 20th birthday, January 13, 1943 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they had five children. Their first child, Larry, died shortly after birth. Melvin later died of cancer in 1975 at the young age of 54.

Nedra’s children were the love of her life. She was their cheerleader, their confidante, their teacher and their example. She made a point of having family dinner together every night along with plenty of conversation and laughter. Her home was impeccable, as was her yard and garden. She loved her flowers.

Always busy, Nedra was a fine seamstress and also enjoyed crocheting, knitting and working in crewel, needlepoint and counted cross stitch. She loved to ballroom dance and always had beautiful music playing in her home.

In 1977 Nedra worked for Eames Home Furnishings of Ogden, and later for Ethan Allen in Salt Lake City where she was often the top salesperson because of her genuine friendliness and her natural ability in interior design.

In 1987 Nedra married Kay L. Jacobs. They lived in Salt Lake City as well as Sun Lakes, AZ. They spent many happy years golfing, graveling with friends and enjoying their grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Nedra had many friends and loved her bridge and sewing clubs. She was a superb hostess, making everyone feel welcome. She seldom complained and often said “You can choose to be happy”.

Nedra is survived by her children, Janet Day (Clinton), Connie Black (Albert), JoAnn Klomp (David), Lee J. Stephenson (Sandy), a sister, Elayne Haskell Roberts, 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, Layton, UT on August 31, 2012. Interment will be at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park Cemetery, S. Ogden, UT.
