KILLED WHEN CAR GOES OVER EMBANKMENT

Ned Tovey Meets With Sudden Death Monday Evening

Ned Tovey was instantly killed Monday, August 27, 1928 when the car he was driving plunged over a steep embankment. He had been subject to fainting spells since a recent accident and it is supposed the accident was caused by one of these attacks. The accident happened just above the Elkhorn dam and in plain sight of the Morgan Jones farm.

Monday afternoon Ned Tovey was called to assist his brother Lester with the truck being used to haul grain from the ranch to market. He drove up to the ranch in the Daniels district in his Buick Coupe and was returning home about eight o’clock in the evening.

Tracks left by the car indicate that he had negotiated the corner by the Jones farm and was on the up grade when the accident happened. It would appear from the tracks left by the car that he was not driving very fast. The tracks show that the car did not swing but went straight ahead instead of making the slight curve at this point. Evidently he felt the fainting spell coming on as the ignition was thrown off and the emergency brake was set. However, by the time he had done this the car was too far over the embankment to be saved.

As the car stopped almost, or but a short distance from the point it went over, would indicate that he was not going very fast at the time. It rolled over, according to children who saw the accident; several times, finally coming to rest across his chest.

Mrs. Jones immediately rushed for aid and within a very short time the body had been removed from the wreckage and carried to the Jones farm house.

In about ten minutes after the accident, Lester Tovey came along with the truck load of wheat.

During the afternoon he had a fainting spell while carrying some fruit into the house for his mother. As he has had several at different times since his accident in the spring, and operation upon the neck for carbuncles, and he had rapidly recovered with no apparent bad after effects, he evidently did not think much about it before going to the assistance of the brother.

The body was brought to the Malad Funeral Home where it was prepared for burial.

Mr. Tovey was about 36 years old, leaves a wife and three children, father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Tovey, a sister and two brothers.

Funeral services are being held this afternoon.
