MONA DENNIS KELSEY

Mona Dennis Kelsey, 90, passed away peacefully at her home on May 9, 2012 with her family by her side. Mona was born July 4, 1921 in Smithfield, UT to Thomas and Anna Dennis.

Mona was raised in Malad, ID and attended Idaho State College in Pocatello, ID. She resided in San Francisco, CA, where she and her sister, Lanae, worked at the Navy shipyards welding parts to repair Navy ships during World War II, after Pearl Harbor.

Mona was recognized by the Veteran’s Administration on March 14, 1980 for 35 years of faithful service at the VA Medical Center in Palo Alto, CA. Mona and her sister Lanae lived and worked together in California. They ran an elevator at the hotel called The Mark Hopkins Hotel and did this along with working in the Navy shipyards to earn a little extra money. They used to call it “Top of the Mark”.

She then moved to Coeur d’Alene, ID where Mona was active in the Marine Corps League in Coeur d’Alene. Mona was a lifetime member of the Ladies auxiliary VFW, where she served the community with the Ladies Auxiliary VFW. Mona was recognized in 2002-03 by the Hayden Lake #9831 Auxiliary for her community service. Mona worked as a purchasing agent for the Department of the Navy until her retirement.

Mona is greatly loved by her family and friends and we will keep her memories close to our hearts as we remember her.

Mona is survived by her brother Ronald Dennis of Tremonton, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Norman Kelsey; parents; brother, J.J. Dennis; and sisters, Lanae D. Urbani and Ardith Rigby.

Graveside services were held May 15, 2012 in the Malad Cemetery.
