MINA NEWHOUSE THOMAS

Mina Newhouse Smith Thomas, 83, died January 25, 1985 in Malad of cancer.

She was born April 19, 1902 in Berne, Switzerland, to Jacob and Rosa Rueggseger Newhouse. When she was a young girl, the family moved to Utah where she was reared and educated in Providence and Hyrum.

The family later moved to Daniels, near Malad, where she worked in the family store and for the US Postal Service.

She married Burnett “Pat” Smith, Sept. 22, 1919 in Daniels. He died March 30, 1961.

She married Peter Thomas, June 5, 1969 and he died Jan. 31, 1975.

After her marriage, she had lived in St. John and for many years had lived in Malad.

She was a member of the LDS Church where she had served in the Relief Society as a visiting teacher.

She is survived by two stepsons, Garth Thomas, St. John; Dr. Khalil Thomas, Las Vegas, NV; three daughters, Mrs. Eva May Burns, Bountiful, UT; Mrs. Mina Tegnell, Las Vegas, NV; Mrs. Elmer (Nadine) Peters, Tremonton, UT; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Glen B. (Helen) Williams, Malad; Mrs. Kathryn Bogk, Salt Lake City; nine grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; three brothers, Fred Newhouse, Bellevue, WA; Loyd Newhouse, Page, AZ; and one sister, Mrs. William (Lula) Ward.
