Mary Woozley Jensen

Mary Woozley Jensen, 18 February 1904

Mary Woozley Jensen, 91, passed away January 24, 1996 in Bountiful, Utah. Born February 18, 1904 in St. John (Malad), Idaho to Timothy and Mary Ellen Woozley. She married Weldon Jensen July 8, 1932 in the Logan LDS Temple.

Mary graduated from Malad High School. She attended the University of Utah and then graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Music Education. Later she received a Masters of Music Education degree from Utah State University.

She was the first lady missionary from the St. John Ward. She went to the Eastern States Mission and later she and Weldon served together in the Cumorah Mission.

She taught school in Randolph and Logan, Utah, and in Malad, Idaho. She was music supervisor of Davis County Schools until her retirement. She also taught LDS seminary for several years.

She was a member of the Civic and Kindergarten Clubs in Brigham City, a member of Belletrist and Fine Arts Clubs in Malad, and a member of the Women’s State Legislative Council while living in Bountiful. She was also a member of Sorosis. Mary served on many educational committees. She also taught classes for Utah State University and Brigham Young University and directed three choruses in the Salt Lake Tabernacle.

She has always been an active church worker. having been chorister and organist in all the ward auxiliaries as well as ward chorister and organist in Brigham City, St. John and Bountiful. She was a member of the Sunday School General Board for eight years. She and Weldon were temple ordinance workers for ten years in the Salt Lake Temple.

Her beloved husband, Weldon, passed away January 14, 1996. She is survived by a daughter Cherrel Budge (Lawrence), Harlowton, MT; and a son, Weldon L. (Ren) Jensen (Sharon), Ft. Collins, CO; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held January 29, 1996 at the Bountiful 13th Ward Chapel. Interment was in the St. John Cemetery, Malad, Idaho.
