EAST GARLAND – Mary Letitia Allen Sorensen, 82, died Thursday, September 19, at the home of her daughter in Fielding of causes of incident to age.

Born June 26, 1903 in Portage Utah, she was a daughter of Isaac and Francis Letitia Gibbs Allen. She married John Henry Sorensen March 15, 1922 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He died January 7, 1973.

She had lived in portage and East Garland. She was reared and educated in Portage and was a member of the Garland East Ward. She had been a visiting teacher for over 50 years, a Sunday School Primary and YWMIA Teacher, Primary and Relief Society Secretary and a member of the ward choir. She was an active member of DUP’s and a licensed practical nurse and had worked at the Bear River Valley Hospital for 12 years. She was an avid quilter and crocheter(sic).

Surviving are two sons and two daughters: Allen H. Sorenson, Bountiful; Clyde A. Sorensen, East Garland; Mrs. Richard (Betty Jean) Peterson, Fielding; Mrs. Leon (Patricia) Fryer, Salt Lake City; 18 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers and two sisters, Joseph Allen, Brea, California; Duggan Allen of Ogden; Gibbs Allen of Portage; Ervin Allen, Malad; Mrs. Cleopha Stuart, Orem; Mrs. Wilford (Vera) Dredge, Soda Springs. One sister preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Monday 12 noon in the Garland East-Fielding LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop John A. Bourne officiating. Interment was in the East Garland Cemetery.
