Mary LaRue Harris Briggs

Mary LaRue Harris Briggs, 88, passed away on September 17, 2015, in Medford, Oregon.
LaRue was bom on July 27, 1927, in Malad, Idaho, to Morgan Wilford and Mary Ann Deschamps Harris. She was the second daughter of four girls and then two boys.
She graduated from Malad High School and later obtained her degree from the University of Utah in textile and design.
LaRue married Winston Dean Briggs of Malad, Idaho, on March 27, 1948. Dean made his career in the Navy and LaRue traveled the world with him, spending time in California, Japan and finally Annandale, Virginia. In 2007, LaRue and Dean moved to the Rogue Valley Manor in Medford, Oregon.
LaRue was a very talented artist, excellent cook and an expert in knitting and sewing. She was proud of her gardens. She loved to learn; and wherever she lived she learned about the people, history and places of interest. While living in Virginia she was a docent for many years at the National Portrait Gallery. LaRue’s passion was golfing. She was excellent and made this a lifelong pursuit. LaRue loved children; and although she had no children of her own, she was like a second mother to many of her friends’ children. She was a very caring person and had many friends wherever she lived.
LaRue is survived by her sister Helen (Jay) Green and brother Morgan (Ann) Harris both of Las Vegas, Nevada and her brother David (Sharon) Harris of Malad, Idaho and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and sisters Shelba (Reed) Blaisdell and Delene (Bill) Parry.
A memorial service will be held for LaRue on Friday, September 25,2015, at the Rogue Valley Manor in Medford, Oregon. Her final resting place will be beside Dean at Eagle Point National Cemetery located near Medford, Oregon. The family wishes to thank Kirsten (Allen) and Kelly Thompson, formerly of Malad and presently of Medford, who have been so attentive to LaRue during her last year.
