FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. FRED THOMAS

Impressive funeral services were held at the Malad First Ward chapel on Tuesday for Mrs. Fred Thomas who died at the Oneida Hospital on June 3, 1939 of a heart attack.

Bishiop Thomas D. Evans presided at the services at which the speakers were J. Peter Jensen, S.A. Hendricks and Daniel Price. Musical numbers included son by the Singing Mothers of the Malad Third Ward, directed by Mrs. Esther Mifflin; duet, Ruel and Ella Ipsen; two vocal solos, Mrs. Margaret E. Jones. D. Dredge Thomas gave the invocation and E.N. Crowther, the benediction. Interment was in the Malad cemetery with Thomas Burroughs dedicating the grave.

Mrs. Mary Ellen Thomas was born September 24, 1872 in Hyrum, Utah, the daughter of Mary E. and Wm. Jones. She came to Malad when a small child with her parents who were among the first settlers here. She spent her girlhood here and married Fred W. Thomas on December 24. To this union were born nine children, three of whom survive.

Mrs. Thomas was an active member of the LDS Church and served as a Relief Society teacher. She was known by all for her fine spirit of hospitality and kindness to all.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Mary L. Peterson of Garfield, and Mrs. Ruth Ripley of Malad, and one son, Victor Thomas of Salt Lake City. Five sisters also survive: Mrs. Jack McKay, Mrs. Frank Thomas, Mrs. James Hughes, Mrs. Daniel K. Evans and Mrs. Lorenzo Jones.
