Mary Eileen Jensen

JENSEN, MARY EILEEN, June 5, 1924 – February 27, 2004

Mary Eileen Jensen, 79, of Ucon died February 27, 2004 at her home from complications of a long term illness. She was under the care of The Aspen Foundation for Hospice Care.

She was born June 5, 1924 in Malad City, Idaho to James Peter Jensen and Mary Ann Dudley Jensen. She grew up in Malad and attended schools there, graduating from Malad High School. She then served a full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Southern California. After her mission she moved to Aberdeen to work for the Soil Conservation District.

She married Roy Alvin Jensen October 13, 1947 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived briefly in Aberdeen, then moved to the Jensen family farm in Ucon in 1950, where they have resided ever since. She was a homemaker and mother and worked as a secretary for School District 93 at Ucon Elementary School, Ammon Junior High School and Hillview Elementary School. She retired in 1972.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in various callings over the years, including organist, Relief Society Counselor, Stake Young Women presidency and as a teacher in Primary and Sunday School. She was active in the Cancer Society’s “Reach to Recovery” program. She enjoyed music, reading, canning, learning computer skills, and especially her family and friends.

Surviving are her husband, Roy A. Jensen, Ucon, Idaho; son, Garth R. (Elaine) Jensen, Macungie, Pennsylvania; daughter, Mary Alice (Steve) Cannon, Idaho Falls, Idaho; daughter, Linda Ann Jensen, Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, David P. (Fara) Jensen, Troy, Michigan; three sisters-in-law, Hallie Jensen, Gresham, Oregon; Thora Jensen and Maude Jensen, both of Malad; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Ralph, Royal, Rex and Raymond, and three sisters, Edna, LaRue and Mabel.

Funeral services will be held March 4, 2004 at the Ucon LDS First Ward. Burial will be in the Ucon Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
