MARY EDITH BOLINGBROKE HUGHES (died 30 Nov 1955)
Funeral Wednesday For Mrs. Hughes
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Malad LDS First ward for Mrs. Mary Edith Bolingbroke Hughes, 69, who died at her home in Malad Saturday.
She was born January 20, 1886 at Malad, a daughter of Henry and Mary Lusk Bolingbroke. Reared and educated here, she was married to Gomer Hughes, Dec. 21, 1904, in the Logan LDS Temple. Mr. Hughes died in 1940. Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served as secretary in the Primary, MIA and Relief Society organizations.
Surviving are two sons and six daughters: Mrs. Andrew (Edith) Atkinson, Samaria; Henry Hughes, Malad; Mrs. E.J. (Elda) Dorius, Provo; Mrs. R.M. (Reva) Pitzer, Cleveland, Ohio; Mrs. E.A. (Phyllis) Filcox, Magna, Utah; Mrs. Ben (Thelma) Call, Malad; Mrs. Jay (Mary Jean) Hess, Plymouth, Utah; Ellis G. Hughes, Magna; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Mrs. Evan Evans, Mrs. Gomer Evans and Chester Bolingbroke all of Malad.
Bishop D. Dredge Thomas officiated at the services. Prayer at the home was offered by Henry E. Thomas; invocation, Bishop Carl Evans; benediction, James Vaughan; dedicatory prayer, Thomas D. Evans. Speakers were William H. Rutter, Dr. Thomas W. Richards and Bishop Thomas who gave the obituary. Musical numbers were prelude and postlude by Charlotte K. Evans; song, First ward Singing Mothers; solo, Jerkin Jones, solo, Shirley Bolingbroke; song, Ward Brothers. Pallbearers were Marlo Atkinson, Eph Bolingbroke, Chester Lou Bolingbroke, Bobby Dorius, Henry Bolingbroke, Earl Evans.
Interment was in the Malad cemetery.
