MARVIN THOMAS, FORMER MALAD CITY COUNCILMAN DIES
Marvin Dean Thomas, 37, former resident of Malad, died December 29, 1989 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
He was born May 28, 1951 at Logan, Utah to Stanley and Erma Peterson Thomas. He was a 1969 graduate of Malad High School and LDS Seminary. He graduated from Ricks College and attended Brigham Young University for one year.
He married Susan Christine Ryals January 11, 1974 at Provo, Utah. The marriage was solemnized January 10, 1975 in the Logan LDS Temple.
He was employed with the US Postal Service for 14 years and recently transferred from Malad to Las Vegas. He also enjoyed working in the family grocery store, Thomas Food Town, in Malad.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he was an elder and served in many capacities. He served in the Kentucky-Tennessee Mission from 1971-73.
He was active in community affairs and served for several years on the Malad City Council.
He enjoyed gardening, bowling, genealogy and working with antiques.
He is survived by his wife, Las Vegas; a son, Ryan Stanley Thomas, and three daughters, Melissa Suzanne, Jennifer Christine and Susan Margaret Thomas, all of Las Vegas; his mother, Mrs. Erma Thomas, Malad; four brothers, David, LaMirada, CA; F. Dennis and Ned P., both of Malad, and Tim Thomas, Sun Valley; three sisters, Mrs. Nancy Nalder, Pocatello; Mrs. Jon (Ann) Ward, Idaho Falls and Connie Thomas, Providence, UT.
Funeral services were Monday, Jan. 2, 1989 in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel with Bishop Jerry Bush officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Benson Horsley Funeral Home.
