MARTEL THOMAS

SWAN LAKE – Martel Willard Thomas, 67, Swan Lake, died October 17, 1984 in Logan, Utah.

He was born September 10, 1917 in Swan Lake to Chauncey W. and Pauline Hendericks Thomas.

He married Hazel Criddle Dec. 10, 1937 in Elko, NV. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple.

He owned and operated the Swan Lake Mercantile for many years.

He served as the Swan Lake post master for 37 years and was a veteran of World War II, and was active in the American Legion and Disabled American Legion and Disabled American Veterans.

He served as the state president of NAPAS of Idaho and also served as the exhaulted ruler of the Preston Elks Lodge. He was a trustee of the school board and served as a counselor in the mutual organization of the LDS Church. He was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife; four sons and two daughters, Terry Thomas, Brigham City, UT; Jed Thomas, Wasilla, Alaska; Kim Thomas, Swan Lake; Brad Thomas, West Jordan, UT; Mrs. Kay (Ann) Littlefield, Wilmington, NC; Mrs. David (Cheryl) Packard, Payette; 16 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two brothers and three sisters, Quentin Thomas, Logan; Doris Thomas, Ketchican, AL; Mrs. Belva Hadley, West Valley, UT; Mrs. Leland (Yetive) Searl, Salt Lake City; and Enid Bennett, Preston.

Funeral services were October 20 in the Swan Lake Ward Chapel under the direction of Bishop Lynn Merrill. Burial was in the Swan Lake Cemetery.
