Mae Kohler Evans

Mae Kohler Evans, 3 October 1906

Mae Kohler Evans passed away February 12, 2002 in Bountiful, UT at the age of 95, shortly after the death of her husband, Myrthus W. Evans, who passed away on September 6, 2001, after 68 years of marriage.

Mae was born October 3, 1906 in a log cabin in Byron, WY to Fred Kohler and Flora Inez Pack Kohler. Her family was sent to colonize the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming in the spring of 1900, traveling by covered wagon. Mae had a strong pioneer heritage. Her grandfather, John Pack was one of the first pioneers to enter the Salt Lake Valley with Brigham Young.

Mae met her eternal companion while residing in Malad, and was married November 9, 1933 in the St. George Temple.

Mae had many callings in the church, including ward and stake Relief Society president. In 1970 she and her husband were called to serve as Matron and President of the Los Angeles Temple until their release in 1975. They moved to Utah where they continued to serve as ordinance workers in the Salt Lake Temple.

Mae is survived by three sons: Gary, Visalia, CA; Robert, Bountiful, UT; John, Higley, AZ; a sister, Maria Williams, Malad; 12 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen; a son, Dean; her parents, six sisters, two brothers as well as one grandson and three great grandchildren.

Services were held February 16 in Salt Lake with burial in the Malad City Cemetery.
