Mae Cottam Morris VanLeeuwen, (1914)

VANLEEUWEN, GRETA MAE COTTAM MORRIS, May 18, 1914 – January 9, 2008

OGDEN – Mae Cottam Morris VanLeeuwen, 93, our beloved mother left this world for a better one on January 9, 2008, after an extended stay at Crestwood Care Center. May was born at Bothwell, Utah on May 18, 1914 to William Cottam Jr. and Harriet Marie Neal. Her brothers and sisters were William Ross, Irene Jamina, Fredrick Lawrence, Carl John, Alta Maria and Herman Neal. Mae was the youngest child. Her mother died when she was seven and her father died when she was nine.

While living in Malad, Idaho, Mae met her love, Delmar Ralph Morris and they were married October 25, 1935. Their love was blessed by two sons, Khalil Ralph Morris and Larry D. Morris. Their marriage was later sealed in the Logan Temple. After 25 happy years of marriage Delmar was killed by a train in 1957. She enjoyed a second marriage to Henry VanLeeuwen starting on June 2, 1969. One of the joys of this marriage was serving a mission together in Hayward, California. Henry preceded her in death in 1998.

Mae was a member of the LDS Church and served in many ways, including 35 years teaching Primary, Relief Society, Young Women’s president. She also served a mission and as a temple patron. She was a member of Malad American Legion Auxiliary, volunteer at McKay Dee Hospital, Union Station guide, and member of the Daughters of Pioneers, Eagles, Elks, and several dance clubs.

She worked at a drug store in Layton, Woolworths, Gibson’s and Asst. to Dr. Rupert in Ogden and Delmonte Cannery.

Mae loved people and loved talking to everyone. She had a sense of humor that put everyone at ease, and she enjoyed laughing and life.

She is survived by her sons, Khaliil Ralph (Ramona) Morris of Ogden, UT; Larry D. (Chris) Morris of Worland, WY; three grandchildren; Leland (Debbie) Branstein, Minneapolis, MN; Marlys (Frank) Nelson, Gillette, WY and Tamera (Donnie) Curtis, Gillette, WY. Also surviving are one step daughter Jackie (Leon) Pierce, magna, UT; eight great grandchildren; 11 great -great grandchildren, one great- great- great-grandchild. Also many special nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, all siblings, two husbands, and many special cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held January 17, 2008 at Myers Mortuary, Ogden, UT. Interment, Malad Idaho Cemetery.
