MALAD – Madge Maxine Kitt May, 79, of Malad, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2000, at home.

She was born December 1, 1920, in Harrington, Washington, to Albert and Clara Cerny Kitt. She was raised and educated in Harrington. She attended Washington State University.

She married Clifton Teel on February 18, 1940. They had four children: Sharon Kay Teel (Gardner), Susan Joanne (Thomas) Best, Richard Douglas (Karen) Teel, Janice Marie (Phil). They were later divorced. She married Howard May on November 16, 1957. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on November 15, 1961. They had two children: Maria Lynn (Frank) Hintze, and Dori Kay (David) Cottle.

Howard and Madge lived in several cities in Washington, Oregon and Idaho. They had resided in Malad since 1977. They served LDS missions in Aba, Nigeria, London, England, Tarawa, Kiribati, and Washington, D.C.

Madge loved flowers, children, bluegrass music and serving the Lord. She served four times as Relief Society president, twice as Primary president. She was a den mother and a nursery leader. She taught early morning seminary. She had a passion for family history research, and over the years submitted nearly 1,000 family names for temple ordinance work. She was a good friend and a compassionate neighbor. She was particularly watchful over those who were less fortunate.

Madge was preceded in death by her parents and an elder brother, Delbert Kitt. She is survived by her husband and children, 41 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 121, 2000 at the Malad Second, Fourth and Fifth Ward, 20 S. 100 W., at noon. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., this evening, Tuesday, April 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the chapel. Burial will be in the Malad Cemetery.
