Luis G. Cervantez (Birth – August 19, 1945)
Services held for Vietnam soldier
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 22nd (1969), at the Curlew LDS Ward Chapel for Specialist 4th Class Luis G. Cervantez, 23, Snowville, who died July 12th (1969) in Vietnam of gunshot wounds received in combat.
Services were under the direction of Rogers Mortuary with Bishop Blaine Hickman officiating. Prelude and postlude music was played by Rennis Larkin with Mike Hickman and Lamoine Skidmore offering prayers. Obituary was given by Bishop Hickman and the speakers were Charles Taylor and President Jerry Rose. Musical numbers were a duet, LaDene Zundell and Doyle Cutler; solo, Wynn Anderson. Rennis Larkin was accompanist. Flowers were carried by friends and cousins under the direction of the Curlew Ward Relief Society.
Holy Rosary was recited Tuesday evening at the Rogers Mortuary and Requiem Mass was held Wednesday morning, July 23rd, at St. Henry’s Catholic church in Brigham City.
Interment was in the Riverview Cemetery at Tremonton.
Luis had been serving in Vietnam for the past nine months. He entered the service May 9, 1968, receiving basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and advanced training at Fort Ord, Cal.
Luis was born August 19, 1945 at Pastor Ortiz, Michoacan, Mexico, a son of Bernabe (Pete) and Cleofaz Berber Cervantez.
He had lived at Snowville for the past nine years. A graduate of Bear River High School, he attended Utah State University at Logan for two years. He was a member of the Catholic Church.
He is survived by his parents of Snowville, three brothers and one sister, Ramiro, Louis, Ruben and Connie Cervantez, all of Snowville; grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. Fidencio Cervantez, Pastor Ortiz, Michoacan, Mexico.
