Lowell Thomas, (1912)

LOWELL THOMAS
LOWELL THOMAS was born in St. John, Malad, Idaho, on April 30, 1912, to David Morris and Nellie Deschamps Thomas. He spent his youth at the family farm with his sister and three brothers. He graduated from Malad High School.

In 1932, he left Malad for California looking for work. This was during the depression, and things were tough in California as well. Finally Lowell found work in the movie industry, and spent the next forty- five years moving about the country from one movie site to the next. He was the propman, building sets for the movies, in various locations. Many of his friends were actors, with one of his all time favorites being John Wayne. They made many westerns together.

In the thirties he married Rita Cassevetti, and they were some of the first to travel in a house car, motor home today. She preceded him in death in 1994. They had no children. He married his present wife, Jean, in 1997. Lowell was a kind and generous man, always willing to help those less fortunate than himself.

Upon his retirement, Lowell and his wife moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he passed away on February 5, 2000.

He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife Jean; two brothers: Morris Thomas (Laurene) of St. John, and David S. Thomas (Mildred) of St. Augustine, Florida; his sister, Erma (Clif) Yearsley, of Driggs, Idaho; two nieces and two nephews. His youngest brother, Obid, died in World War II.

Burial will be at the St. John Cemetery on Thursday at 12:00 Noon. Graveside services only.
