Louis Deschamps (Birth 23 Nov 1901/Death 15 July 1990)

Louis Deschamps, 88, longtime St. John resident, died Sunday, July 15, (1990) in Burley.

He was born November 23,1901 in St. John to David S. and Mary Blanche Davis Deschamps. He was raised and educated in St. John and gradulated (graduated) from Malad High School. He later graduated from Utah State Agricultural College. While in College he attended ROTC and was later in the Army Reserves.

He married Cora Evelyn Harrison on August 13,1927. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. She died January 4, 1989.

For several years he worked for the Bureau of Reclamation and was involved in the resettlement program. He lived and farmed in the St. John area for many years.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a member of the Cattlemens Association, was president of the St. John Irrigation Company, a member of the Utah Poultry Association and was instrumental in the building of the Daniels Dam.

He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. DeVon (Geraldine) Andersen, Murtaugh, and Mrs. Robert M. (Marilyn) Jackson, Salinas, California; 14 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ray Deschamps, Tucson, Arizona and David Deschamps, St. John; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Harris, Woodruff, Mrs. Shelba Dredge, Malad, and Mrs. George (Blanche) Weston, Lafayette, California. He was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Friday at noon in the Malad First Ward Chapel with Bishop Rex Daniels officiating. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N., Malad, on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday prior to services. Burial will be in the St. John Cemetery.
