Lorin L. Richards, 87, passed away May 10, 1986 in Salt Lake City.

Born Jan. 2, 1899, Malad, Idaho, the last son of William H. and Catherine Jones Richards. Married Florence Holbr**k 62 years ago on June 27, 1926 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Active member of the LDS Church, served in the Central States Mission in 1917-19. Practiced dentistry in Sugar House and lived in the Lincoln Ward. Then moved to Parley’s Ward. Worked with the Boy Scouts of America, counselor of the high priests quorum and a high councilman for 10 years in the Highland Stake. President of the Great Lakes Mission, 1953-56. Director of the LDS Missionary Home in Salt Lake for 11 years, sending 75,000 elders into the mission field. A member of the church General Missionary Committee, upon his release he was in the New Zealand Temple presidency. In 1968 being in charge of the visitor’s center. Worker in the Salt Lake Temple for 15 years. Member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and made the Treck of 47 from Nauvoo to Salt Lake with the church’s future president, Elder and Sister Spencer W. Kimball. Member and past president of the Sugar House Rotary Club. He loved photography and had a beautiful collection of pictures from all over the world. The most recent trip was in the Holy Lands. His love for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was tremendous. He was concerned about each; their problems, schooling and incidents in their lives. He always remembered each on all their special days. His desire was to leave a heritage to them of a good example and books of the stories, poems, choice bits, and talks that he had given throughout his life.

Survived by his wife, Florence, Salt Lake, two daughters and one son, Mrs. William H. (Lucile) Cluny; Dr. Lorin L. (wife, Patricia E.) Richards, Jr., both Salt Lake, Mrs. J. Hugh (Florence) Baird, Provo; 21 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren.

Funeral service Tuesday, 11:30 a.m., Canyon Road Ward, 135 A Street. Friends may call Monday, 6-8 p.m. at Holbrook funeral chapel, 3251 So. 2300 East and at the ward Tuesday one hour prior to services interment in the Malad city Cemetery, Malad, Idaho. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Utah Heart Assoc.
