JOHN MORRIS RICHARDS

Former Maladian Dies At Ogden

Ogden – John Morris Richards, 810 29th, former mortician of Preston, Idaho, and Logan, died this morning [October 11, 1962] at his home of a heart attack. He was 75.

Mr. Richards was born April 30, 1886, in Malad, a son of William H. and Catherine Ann Jones Richards.

He lived in Malad until 1920 when he moved to Rexburg, Idaho. Later that year he moved to Logan where he established the Richards Mortuary which he operated for 18 years. He then established the Richards Mortuary in Preston which he and his son, Herman, operated until 1953 when he retired and came to Ogden. He later worked as a mortician in Las Vegas, returning to Ogden in February, 1958.

He was a high priest in the Mount Ogden Stake and member of the Seventeenth Ward. He served a mission to Great Britain from 1909 to 1911 and served missions in Logan, Cache, Mount Ogden and Franklin stakes. He was president of the Franklin Stake in Idaho from 1943 until 1946 and was first assistant superintendent in the stake Sunday School. He was a member of the Logan Stake Sunday School Board and was ward clerk of the Logan Fourth Ward and had been a ward teacher.

On June 6, 1912, he was married to Olive Maria Hunsaker in the Salt Lake Temple. She died July 3, 1951. On July 1, 1952, he married to Effie A. Boman in the Logan Temple.

Surviving are his widow, two sons, Herman John Richards, Las Vegas; John Morris Richards, Logan; three daughters, Mrs. Harvey (Lorraine[)] Maughan, Ogden; Mrs. Vern (Hazel) Yeates, Boise; Mrs. Robert (Bernice) Michaelis, Redlands, Calif.; 17 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, three brothers, Thomas W. Richards, Ogden and Malad; William H. Richards, Malad; Lorin L. Richards, Salt Lake City; two sisters, Mrs. Dredge (Sarah) Thomas, Malad; Mrs. William Guy (Catherine) Lund, Provo.

SERVICES HELD IN OGDEN FOR JOHN M. RICHARDS

Funeral services for John Morris Richards, 75, who died last week at his home in Ogden, were conducted at the Lindquist Mortuary Chapel in Ogden, Friday. Burial was at the Logan City Cemetery.
