James A. Richards Dies Here Friday
Funeral services for James A. Richards, 74, who died Friday [May 2, 1958] in the Oneida Hospital of a heart ailment, were held Tuesday in the St. John LDS Ward chapel with Bishop N. Melvin Yearsley officiating.
Prayer at the home was offered by Bishop Carl A. Evans. Prelude and postlude music were played at the chapel by Lyle Deschamps. Speakers were Griff L. Jenkins, James B. Jones and Bishop Yearsley, who read the obituary. Prayers were offered by Nolan Blaisdell and Calvin Dredge. Leora Brown and Eldon Corbridge sang solos.
Raiford G. Benson dedicated the grave.
Flowers were carried by the St. John Relief society and the Daughters of Idaho Pioneers.
Casket bearers were Oscar Larson, Ed Morgan, Joseph W. Lindsey, Dan C. Thomas, George Richards and William H. Richards. Interment was in the Malad City Cemetery under direction of the Benson Funeral Home.
James Alma Richards was born August 9, 1883 in Malad, a son of Thomas A. and Elizabeth Chivers Richards. Reared and educated in Malad and St. John, he was a member of the LDS Church and the Modern Woodmen of America.
On November 28, 1912, he married Mary Ann Larsen in St. John.
Surviving are his widow, Malad; a son, James L. Richards, Hayward, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Jane Kyle, San Lorenzo, California; Mrs. Velda Peabody, Malad; a sister, Mrs. Charlotte Smith, Ogden; two grandchildren and a great grandchild.
