Services Held For Mrs. Merlin Rice
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at Malad Fourth LDS ward for Mrs. Lila Rae Goddard Rice, age 18, who died Saturday evening [August 19, 1961] following a car accident.
Bishop J. Arthur Servoss presided. Family prayer was offered by Newell Nish; the invocation by Al Cissney and the benediction, by Bishop Hubert Gleed, who also read the obituary. Speakers were Don Nish and Henry E. Thomas. Louis Yearsley, accompanied by Fern Willie, sang a solo, and Connie Dives and Paula Deschamps, a duet. Mae E. Williams played the prelude and postlude music.
At the Malad City Cemetery, Raiford Benson offered the dedicatory prayer. Flowers were arranged by the Fourth Ward Relief Society, and casket bearers were Joe Goddard, Reed Henderson, Jimmy Goddard, Jerry Rice, Freddie Reynolds and Ted Reed.
Benson Funeral Home directed the burial.
Mrs. Rice was born Sept. 18, 1942, at LaGill, Nevada, to Fred and Lila Carson Goddard. She was married to Merlin Rice at Pocatello in November, 1959, and they moved to Sacramento, Calif., in February of this year.
Surviving are her husband; parents, Malad; two sisters and six brothers, Mrs. Robert (Ruth Ann) Wood, Garland; Elgy Della, Malad; Ferron, Draper; Thomas C., Jack C., Gene, Don, Larry, all of Malad; a grandmother, Mrs. John Carson, Ely, Nevada.
