JEREMIAH WILLIAM RICE

Funeral Wednesday For J. W. Rice

Funeral services were held at the Malad Fourth LDS ward Wednesday for Jeremiah William Rice, age 61, who died Sunday evening [November 20, 1960] at the Oneida Hospital of a heart attack.

Bishop Colen H. Sweeten, Jr. officiated.

Family prayer was offered by Llewellyn Williams. At the chapel, prayers were offered by J. A. Servoss and Jonah M. Evans. Speakers were Dr. Thos. W. Richards, Bishop Hubert Gleed and Bishop Sweeten, who also read the obituary. Jenkin L. Palmer sang a solo and June Ward and Robbie Raymond, a duet. Myra Jean John played the prelude and postlude music.

Dedicatory prayer was offered by Avard Anderson and flowers were arranged by the Fourth Ward Relief Society. Honorary bearers were Curtis Thomas, Griff J. Davis, Leland A. Jones and Morris Stuart, and bearers were Reed Henderson, Ted Reed, Douglas Anderson, Al Cessney, Kenneth Batty and Howard Miller.

Benson Funeral Home directed the burial at the Malad City Cemetery.

Mr. Rice was born at Samaria April 25, 1899, a son of Warren and Mary Williams Rice. He married Annie Anderson January 6, 1919, at Malad. Mr. Rice was a member of the LDS Church. He had been employed by the Union Pacific Railroad Co.

Survivors include his widow, Malad; three sons, Jerry Evan, Sacramento, Calif.; Arch, Los Angeles; Merlyn, Malad; six daughters, Mrs. Ted (Blanche) Reed, Palisades; Mrs. Howard (Marie) Miller, Los Angeles; Mrs. Alvis (Beulah) Cessney, Sacramento; Mrs. Kenneth (Helen) Batty, Wawawai, Wash.; Mrs. Reed (Jadene) Henderson, Preston; Mrs. Douglas (Mary Lou) Anderson, Rosmond, Calif.; stepfather, Evan Stuart, Malad; 25 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Varsel (Alice) Christophersen, Malad.
