Lewis D Shepard dies in S.L.C. Sept. 2

Lewis Daniel Shepherd, 66, Malad, died Saturday at the University Medical Center in Salt Lake City.

He was born Jan. 13, 1912, in Paris, Idaho, to Ernest T. and Eliza Lewis Shepherd.

He married Blanche Fife Sept. 16, 1940, in Salt Lake City, Utah. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. Mr. Shepherd was a cafe owner and operator 38 years. He owned Blink’s Cage in Paris and had owned and operated the Dude Ranch Cafe in Malad from 1945 until shortly before his death.

He was a member of the LDS Church, the Elks Lodge of Logan, Utah and the Eagles’ Lodge in Malad.

Survivors include his wife of Malad; two sons, L. Wayne, Salt Lake City, and Gary F., Malad; six grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Irwen (Mary) Jensen, Pleasant Grove, Utah, Mrs. Ada Rich, Logan, Utah, and Mrs. Velate Derricott, Pocatello.

Funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon at the Malad 4th Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Darrell Swartz in charge. At the Benson Funeral Home, family prayer was offered by Ronald Campbell. At the Chapel, prelude and postlude music was played by Marie Jones; invocation, Reese Nielsen; vocal duet, Connie Budge and Lana Esplin; life sketch, Dana S. Benson; talk, President Dennis Campbell; vocal, Kris Ulrich; remarks, Bishop Darrell Swartz; vocal duet, Margaret Boam and Muriel Wilding; benediction, Norman Jaussi. Accompanists were Ruth Jones and Marie Jones.

Concluding rites were at the Malad City Cemetery where Raiford G. Benson offered the dedicatory prayer. Flowers were carried by granddaughters and members of the 4th Ward Relief Society, Erma Evans, president. Casket bearers were Cleve Harris, Melvin Hess, Ed Jones, Bud Waldron, Carl Willie and Dennis Thomas.
