SUDDEN DEATH OF LEVI C. AXTELL

Aged Holbrook Resident Passed Away at Malad Sunday Evening

Levi C. Axtell, of Holbrook, who, with his son, was in town Sunday to attend the funeral services over the remains of Ernest Jones, died at the Peck Hotel at 8:20 p.m. Sunday (26 Oct 1921) from heart trouble.

Mr. Axtell, who is over 71 years of age walked from town to the D. W. Jones home and from there to the tabernacle, keeping up with the funeral procession. This overtaxed his heart, he became ill late in the afternoon and died that evening.

Levi C. Axtell was born in Patterson, N. J., and came west in 1873, making his home in Utah. In the winter of 1914, he and his wife, to whom he was married in 1871, moved to Holbrook, where he has since resided. His wife died two years ago.

Mr. Axtell was a carpenter by trade and followed that occupation most of his life.

Mr. Axtell was highly respected by all who knew him, being a man of honesty and integrity.

He is survived by three daughters, Mrs. W. G. Deacon, of Forest Lake, Minn., Mrs. James Peterson, of Holbrook, and Mrs. Frank Parker, of Holbrook, two sons, Levi Axtell, of Los Angeles, and Theodore Axtell, of Holbrook, who sounded the taps at the cemetery Sunday.

Mr. Axtell’s oldest son was killed by a burglar in Salt Lake in 1911. The thief was making his escape from the officers and Axtell, who was going to work, attempted to stop the thief and was shot and mortally wounded.

The remains of Levi Axtell were taken to Salt Lake Wednesday for burial. They were accompanied by Theodore Axtell, Mrs. Frank Parker, Mrs. James Peterson and daughter.

Mr. Axtell was a member of the K. P. lodge.
