MALAD BOY KILLED IN PLANE CRASH

SAN FRANCISCO – An army plane crashed into a hangar at Mills field south of San Francisco Monday, June 1, 1942, killing the pilot and an enlisted man who was in the hanger.

Army officials identified the dead as:
Second Lieutenant James Mitchell, son of Mrs. T.W. Mitchell of Cleveland, Ohio, the pilot.
Private Leverett B. Thomas, son of Mrs. Ellen Thomas, Burley, Idaho.

The hangar was badly damaged by fire which followed the crash. Four planes standing beside the building said they probably could be repaired.

Leverett Thomas was born at Malad, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward R. Thomas. His father died at Malad a few years ago and a little later Mrs. Thomas moved to Burley.
