Lester “Tobe” Thomas Call (Birth – August 23, 1908)

Lester Thomas “Tobe” Call, 75, Downey, died Sunday (March 11, 1984) at Marsh Valley Hospital of heart failure.

He was born Aug. 23, 1908, in Dayton, to James H. and Mary Elizabeth Phillips Call.

He grew up and attended school in Dayton and attended Preston High School. As a young man, he worked on a farm in Dayton until 1942, when he entered the Army. During World War II, he served in the European Theater and received two Purple Hearts and the Oak Leaf Cluster.

He married Arlene Nelson July 6, 1945, in Preston. The marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple May 7, 1964.

He was employed by Pet Milk Co. for 22 years and retired in 1969. For many years, he and his wife were caretakers of the Downey City Cemetery. He was an elder in the LDS Church.

Survivors include his wife, Downey; a son, Richard L. Call, Downey; four daughters, Mrs. Tom (LaRae) Adkins, Elko, Nev.; Lynda Elaine Walker, Mrs. Robert (Mary) Denney, and Mrs. Rick (Daren) Bloxham, all of Downey; seven grandchildren; four brothers, Glen Call and Clyde Call, both of Preston; Clarence Call, Logan, Utah; Sylvan Call, Salt Lake City; and two sisters, Mrs. Earl (Rita) Kirkbride, Dayton; and Mrs. Orson (Gwen) Mortinson, Hamilton, Mont. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Funeral services will be noon Wednesday at the Downey LDS Second Ward chapel with Bishop Karl McQuivey officiating. Friends may call at Marsh Valley Funeral Home in Arimo Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday at the church in Downey one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Downey City Cemetery with military rites.
