LeRoy Peabody

MALAD – LeRoy Peabody, 70, died Sunday [February 9, 1987] in Seattle at the Veterans Administration Hospital.

He was born October 1, 1916 in Malad, to Jacob and Martha Lusk Jones Peabody. He attended Malad schools.

He worked for a short time in Bremerton, Washington, in the shipyards. He served three years in the Civilian Conservation Corps at McCall, and in the U.S. Army for five years in the European Theatre of World War II.

He married Birdie Marie Hunter June 14, 1946 in Idaho Falls.

He purchased a farm in Burton in 1946, which they later sold and moved to Rexburg. In the 1950s, he lived for four years in Utah, working as a heavy artillery mechanic for the Tooele Army Depot. In November 1974, he and his wife moved to Malad.

He was a member of the LDS Church, where he served as an elder.

He is survived by his wife of Salt Lake City; three daughters, Mrs. Henry (Theo) Clayton of Texas, Mrs. Jerry (Martha Lee) Lawson of Garland, Utah, and Mrs. Mike (Betty) Mobley, Jordan Valley, Oregon; one stepdaughter, Joyce Marie Frederiksen[sic] Peabody, Salt Lake City; one brother, Thorald[sic] Peabody, Baker, Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. Burt (Rachel) Williams, Mrs. Henry (Rosetta) Pingel[sic] and Mrs. Ned (Sylvia) Shaffer, all of Malad; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were held Thursday at noon at the LDS Second Ward chapel in Malad with Bishop Frank Gunnell officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
