LeRoy Elvoid Gibbs

GIBBS, LeROY ELVOID

LeRoy Elvoid Gibbs, Wendell, ID, 82, passed away January 29, 1984 at the Twin Falls Medical Clinic of cancer.

He was born January 6, 1902 at Portage, UT to James Hyrum and Maria Green Gibbs. He married Lucille Elizabeth Anderson August 26, 1931 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Mr. Gibbs lived in Portage until May of 1947 where he owned and operated a farm and raised Hereford cattle and horses. He then moved to McKay, ID, where he and his wife purchased a cattle ranch. They settled in Wendell in 1955 where he continued ranching.

He was a High Priest in the Wendell LDS First Ward and had served in the past as a Spanish American Missionary for three years and had held numerous other positions in the church.

Mr. Gibbs was involved in horse business all his life and was influential in bringing some of the first quarter horses into the Utah-Idaho area. He was an approved judge for the American Quarter Horse Association.

Survivors are his widow of Wendell, ID and four sons and three daughters: Gordon Gibbs, Rexburg, ID; Paul Gibbs and Carl Gibbs, both of Ketchum, ID; Jim Gibbs, Boise, ID; Mrs. Alvin (Yolanda) Gunderson, Idaho Falls, ID; Mrs. Randell (Sonya) Kennedy, Livermore, CA; Helen Gibbs, Boise, ID; eighteen grandchildren and two great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. John S. (Tillie) Conley, Portage, UT.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 1 at 1:00 p.m. in the Wendell LDS First Ward Chapel. Additional services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. in the Portage Ward Chapel where friends may call from 11:15 – 12:30 p.m.

Interment will be in the Portage Cemetery
