Leland A. Jones, 71, of Cherry Creek, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 24, 1997 in the Oneida County Hospital.
He was born January 8, 1926, in Malad, a son of Brigham W. and Mary Emma Ashton Jones.
He grew u p and was educated in Cherry Creek, and during World War 11 served in the Army
On June 28, 1952, he married Dixie Lee Davidson in Evanston, Wyoming, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on August 1, 1962.
Leland farmed and ranched all his life and for 35 years also worked for the Union Pacific Railroad.
He loved horses, and was well-known for his success n the cutter and flat tracks.
He was an active member of the LDS Church, and had served in various callings, including counselor in the bishopric, and with his wife, as a stake missionary.
He is survived by his wife of Cherry Creek; two sons, Brigham D. (Teresa) Jones and Gaylon (Toni) Jones; two daughters, Sherry (Herb) Hess and Denise Creager, all of Malad; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Avon (Louise) Jones and Cleland (Neva) Jones, all of Cherry Creek; four sisters, Alta Moon, Cherry Creek, Sylvia Heffefinger of Ogden, Utah, Norma (John) Everett of Pine View, Louisiana, and Lawana (Dennis) Clontz of Ogden, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Faye J. Jones.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 27, 1997 at noon in the Malad LDS Second-Fifth Ward Chapel, Bishop Steve Edwards officiating. Friends may call at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home, 132 W. 300 N. today, Friday, Sept. 26, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and n Saturday at the church from 10:30 a.m. t 11:45 a.m.
Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
