LaVona Ray Wakley, (1934)

WAKLEY, LaVONA RAY, June 20, 1934 – June 16, 2004

DOWNEY – LaVona Ray Wakley, 69, of Downey, passed away on June 16, 2004 in Malad. She was born June 20, 1934 in Malad, Idaho, the daughter of Robert Rushton and Alta John Hess. She was raised and educated in Malad and later attended Weber State and Utah State University.

LaVona married her sweetheart, Daniel LaMont Wakley on March 29, 1965 in the Logan LDS Temple.

LaVona loved her work as an educator at Wahlquist Jr. High in Ogden, Utah, and Willow Valley Middle School in Wellsville, Utah. In 1998, LaVona was presented the John Huntsman Award for teacher of the year excellence in education, and she was very proud of this achievement.

She was a member of the LDS Church and will be missed by all that knew and loved her, for she was truly a compassionate and giving woman.

LaVona is survived by her mother, Alta Hess, Malad, ID; her husband, Mont Wakley, Downey, ID; five sons, Robert L. Wakley, Bancroft, ID; Daniel A. Wakley, Layton, UT; W. Kevin Wakley, Ogden, UT; Cory R. Wakley, Hyrum, UT; Mike L. Wakley, Ogden, UT; and one daughter, V. Kay Hansen of South Jordan, UT; 26 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, Herb Hess, Boyd Hess, Don Hess, all of Malad, ID, and Robert Rushton of Willard, UT; two sisters, Sally Lothrup of Downey, ID; Julene Bingham of Honeyville, UT.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Rushton, stepfather, Herb Hess, brother, Ron Hess, and her sister Ruth Langsford.

Services were held June 21, 2004 in the Downey LDS Ward. Services were under the direction of Horsley Funeral Home.
