Laura Maud Hansen Porter, 19 May 1914

WESTON, ID– Laura Maud Hansen Porter, 88, of Weston died May 20, 2002 at the Franklin County Medical Center following a short illness.

She was born May 19, 1914 in American Fork, UT, a daughter of Maud Lowe and George Heber Hansen. She was raised in American Fork, then later moved to Jerome, ID and then to Hamer, ID. She moved to Franklin, ID for a summer, where she met her husband, Lyle R. Porter. They married on January 5, 1937 in the Logan LDS Temple. Lyle died following a car accident in 1986.

Laura was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, living in the Weston First Ward. She served in many positions including Relief Society, Primary and Young Women. She enjoyed woodworking, restoring old furniture, sewing and handicrafts, gardening, collecting antiques and traveling. She enjoyed working in the outdoors and could often be seen cleaning the streets of Weston.

She is survived by her children, Gary Robert Porter (Ramona), Kaysville, UT; Calvin Lyle Porter (Kathy), Roy, UT; Anita Joy Winward (Bruce), Dayton, ID; Nancy Kay Anderson (Brent), Belton, TX; 17 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister and two brothers, Thorah Gough of Jerome, ID; Clifford Hansen of Bountiful, UT and Melvin Hansen of Hamer, ID. She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister, Mildred Erickson and three granddaughters, Patti, Camille and Amy.

Funeral services will be held May 25 at the Weston LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Glade Schwaneveldt conducting. Burial will be in the Franklin City Cemetery.
