Funeral Monday For Mrs. Laura K. Baker

Mrs. Laura Knighton Baker, 73, died Thursday (18 March 1954) evening at her home in Malad following an extended illness with a heart ailment.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1 p.m. At the Malad Second Ward L.D.S. Chapel with Bishop A. Golden Willie conducting.

The prayer at the home was by J. P. Sorenson, the invocation by W. W. Thomas and the benediction by Moyle E. Facer. The prelude and the postlude were played by Emma Ward. Other musical numbers were a vocal duet, Guy and Nellie Gleed; vocal solo, Melvin Atkinson. The speakers were Dr. O. H. Mabey and Dr. Thomas Richards. Ida K. Thomas gave the obituary.

Mrs. Baker was born August 3, 1880 at Bountiful, Utah, a daughter of Daniel and Margaret Lewis Knighton. She was reared and educated at Bountiful. She was married to Ira Baker, December 18, 1901, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. The couple resided at Bountiful and Clearfield before moving to Oneida County in 1903 to establish a homestead south of Holbrook. A lifelong member of the LDS Church, Mrs. Baker was active in the Holbrook Ward Relief Society and other auxiliary organizations of the LDS Church. After moving to Malad in 1926, Mrs. Baker served as a practical nurse in Malad for 15 years.

Surviving are four sons and seven daughters: Wm. E. Baker, Weiser, Idaho; W. L. Baker, Malad; Mrs. Virginia Price, Jerome; Mrs. Stella Sanger, Pocatello; Mrs. Laura Clark, Oakland; Miss Adeline Baker, Mrs. Helen Lether, Iris B. Baker, all of Salt Lake City; Mrs. Iona Paulsen, Arco; Mrs. Afton Wood, Mesa, Arizona; Daniel Baker, San Francisco, California; 17 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters: Mrs. Mary Rumel, Bountiful, Utah; Mrs. Ida Thomas, Price, Utah.

Interment was in the Malad City Cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Home. Guy Benson dedicated the grave.
