NORTH OGDEN – Lars K. “Cactus” Peterson, 82, died April 30, 2002 at his home in North Ogden, following a brief illness.

He was born December 2, 1919 in Malad, ID, a son of Elof Roger and Clara Jeppson Peterson.

On July 28, 1941, Lars married Lila Mae Bullough in Pocatello, ID. Lila preceded him in death on march 25, 1994.

He spent his youth in Huntsville and Ogden, graduating from Ogden High School. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Utah State University and Master’s Degree from UCLA.

Lars was a veteran of World War II, serving with the US Navy aboard LST 218 in the South Pacific.

He lived and began his teaching career in Soda Springs, ID and Lehi, UT, prior to living in Ontario, Riverside and Brea, CA from 1955-71. He returned to Ogden in 1971 to continue his teaching career in junior high and high school. He retired in 1993.

Lars was a member of the Golden Hours and the Oldies but Goodies Harmonica bands. He collected antique sheet music and enjoyed doing leatherwork and listening to amateur musicians. One of the greatest enjoyments of his life was the time he spent fishing in Idaho.

His ready smile and quick wit will be missed by all who knew him.

Surviving are one son, Brian K. Peterson (Shauna R. Mayeda), Salt Lake City; and one granddaughter, Aimee K. Peterson, St. George.

Lars is also survived by two brothers, Sheldon “Ted” Peterson, Luning, NV; Jerry Peterson, Redlands, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Maynard and Dean; and three sisters, Olive, Beth and Doris.

Funeral services will be held at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary. Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park.
