Larry Leo Palmer

Larry Leo Palmer, 56, passed away Thursday, January 10, 1991, at his home.

He was born July 16, 1934, at Malad, the son of Golden and Agnes Palmer. He attended elementary schools at Malad and Aberdeen and High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in business from Idaho State University.

He served with the Army, and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was twice awarded the Bronze Star.

On September 16, 1955, he married Carmen Varley[sic] at Elko, Nevada, and they later divorced.

Mr. Palmer had co-owned and operated a furniture store in Pocatello with Gordon Jones. He worked short periods of time for a finance company, the postal service and an insurance company. Since 1969, he had worked for the State of Idaho Department of Employment, and had been manager of the Pocatello office for the past 14 years.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Private Industry Council. He was a member of the AARPS, American Cancer Society, American Legion Post No. 3, American Falls, Pocatello Elks Club, Southeastern Idaho Freedom Birds (advisory member, board of directors of the Freedom LZ Veterans’ Facility), IAEPES Professional Association, ISU Bengal Foundation, ISU Vo-Tech/Pocatello Chamber of Commerce Advisory Committee, and Pocatello Chamber of Commerce.

His interests included golfing, cross country skiing, fishing, playing cards, and reading. He had many friends over the years through his work with Job Service.

Survivors include his father, Golden Palmer, Malad; a son and daughter-in-law, Vaughn and Carol Palmer, Hailey; a daughter, Diane Palmer, Ketchum; two sisters, Mrs. Martin (Sandra) Chandler, Ketchum, and Mrs. Ron (Maxine) Lewis, Fullerton, California; and a granddaughter, Mariah Palmer.

Funeral services were conducted Thursday, January 17 at Manning Funeral Chapel. Interment was in the Malad City Cemetery, with graveside rites by the American Legion Post No. 3, American Falls, and Malad American Legion, Billy Palmer, commander.
