REESE, LARRY DEAN, March 13, 1949 – March 1, 2004

Larry Dean Rees, loving husband, father, brother, son, uncle and Bishop passed away on March 1, 2004 at his home in Taylorsville, Utah. Dean was born March 13, 1949 to Phillip e. Reese and Theone Y. Rees in Malad, Idaho and was raised primarily in Hunter, Utah. He married his eternal sweetheart, Grayce Newton Rees in the Salt Lake Temple on January 24, 1972. Together they raised six children. Dean attended Cyprus High School where he excelled in leadership, academics and sports. He was an Eagle Scout and was salutatorian of his graduating class. He still holds the basketball records for the most points scored in a game (44) and the most rebounds in a game (27). The Dean Rees Award is given yearly to a Cyprus basketball player who demonstrates excellence on and off the court. Dean went on to play basketball on scholarship at USU.

After serving honorably in the Southwest Indian Mission, Dean graduated from BYU with a degree in accounting and obtained his CPA. He was currently the Senior Vice President of Finance and Administration for Savage Companies. Dean loved to golf with good friends, his dad, brother and especially his son. His girls often asked him “How many golf clubs does one man need?”

Dean has held many positions of leadership as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has twice been Elder’s Quorum President, has served in several bishoprics and High Priest Group Leaderships, he has been a Stake Clerk and a Stake High Councilor. Dean was currently serving as Bishop of the Midvalley Singles Ward. He loved the young adults and the wonderful counselors and leaders with whom he worked. He often commented that this was the best calling in the church.

Throughout his life Dean also served his community. For many years he served on the Board of Directors of the Hansen Planetarium, and for over 12 years he has helped facilitate the Junior Achievement program at Taylorsville High School.

We find comfort in knowing Dean is reunited with his brother, Tom M. Rees and his daughter, Julie Anne Rees, who preceded him in death. Dean is survived by his wife, Grayce Newton Rees; his children, Jana Lynne (Mike) Cox, Kevin Dean (Christy) Rees, Melanie Ellan Rees, Laura Michelle Rees; and his siblings, Sonja (Lenny) Rees, Tim (Bonnie) Rees, and Mark Rees. His family, children and grandchildren were the source of his greatest happiness.

Dean was an intelligent, spiritual, trustworthy and generous person who was greatly admired, respected and loved by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at the Brookshire Ward. Interment, Valley View Memorial Park.
