ISLAND PARK- Kenneth Elroy Curtis, 63, of Island Park, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, of an apparent heart attack.
He was born August 10, 1936, at Downey, Idaho, to Kenneth ElRoy and Fern Audrey Thompson Curtis. He attended school in Downey, and graduated from Downey High School in 1954.
He married Doreen Henderson on December 19, 1953. They had five children. In 1956, they moved to southern California, where he worked for Lockheed Aircraft for a year. He then started in the construction business. In 1969, he started his own company, K.E. Curtis Construction Inc. He sold the business in 1981, but continued working for the company until his retirement in 1991. After retirement he moved to Island Park, where he resided until his death.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was the bishop of the Newbury Park, California Ward for five years, and was serving as first counselor in the Ashton LDS Stake presidency at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife, Doreen, of Island Park; children, Marsha (Danny) Torres of Caramilla, Calif., Kenneth Gene (Sandra) Curtis of Mt. Sterling, Utah, Carol Denise (Weldon) Horton of Westlake Village, Calif., Shannon Lane (Jeff) Sorensen of Newbury Park, Calif. , Sherman Shane (Victoria) Curtis of Newbury Park, Calif.; mother, Fern Curtis Hartvigsen of Kanab, Utah; sisters, Colleen Baker of Downey, Marlene Hall of Pocatello, Susan Sayles of Kanab, Utah; 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 15, at 11 a.m. in the Island Park LDS Chapel, with Bishop John Freeman officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday, May 14, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at the Bert Flamm Mortuary in St. Anthony, 581 East First North, and Monday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be in the Downey Cemetery.
