Kenneth David Jones

JONES, KENNETH DAVID, January 2, 1931 – May 20, 2008

POCATELLO – Kenneth David Jones, 77, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2008 with his wife of 56 years and his sister by his side.

He was born January 2, 1931 to William J. Jones (Trinket) and Blodwin Lloyd Jones in Malad, Idaho. The third of six children, he attended school in Malad for 11 years. In 1948, the family moved to Woodburn, Oregon, where he completed his last year of high school.

Kenneth joined the National Guard his senior year, staying active in the reserves through 1957. After high school, still active in the National Guard, Kenneth attended Oregon State University in journalism and printing. He went on to complete a nine-year apprenticeship in the newspaper business and ended his successful and challenging career of accomplishments in April, 1993.

Kenneth also met Eva May Rheinholdt during high school in 1948 and later married in July, 1951. They had two sons, Randy and David, while still in Oregon, and a daughter, Belinda, after moving to Idaho.

Kenneth followed the newspaper business from Twin Falls to McCammon and American Falls and then settled in Pocatello. Kenneth enjoyed hunting and fishing with his wife, brothers, sister and parents around Arco, Idaho. He also enjoyed snowmobiling in the foothills of Pocatello as well.

Kenneth had a thirst for the outdoors and loved to be on the back of a horse pushing cattle from one meadow across mountain ranges to another meadow. You can look at any mountain from Malad to Fort Hall and find the imprints of his horses’ hooves in the soft soil.

In 1953, Kenneth’s world changed due to a stroke, which left him partially paralyzed. He and Eva bought a place in Arizona, at which time they joined the ranks of snowbirds. They enjoyed nine years of warm weather and friends in Arizona during the winter and the love of their family in the summers back in Pocatello.

By 2002 Kenneth’s health had deteriorated to the point where the arduous task of to and from became overwhelming. Kenneth continued hunting as well as checking cattle from the comfort of a four-wheel drive with his sons and grandsons. He also attended the occasional horse sale or cattle sale up until the last couple years.

To sum it up, he was a very hard-working man that would not let a little thing like a stroke stop him from doing the things he loved with those that he loved, and they as well loved him and will miss him forever.

Funeral services will be held May 23, 2008 in the Horsley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Malad City Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post #65.
