Julius Guy Gleed

GLEED, JULIUS GUY

PROVO , UTAH – Julius Guy Gleed, 85, former Malad resident died December 3, 1984 at his home in Provo, Utah.

He was born June 5, 1899 in Malad, to William and Elizabeth McKay Gleed. He grew up and was educated in Malad and later attended Stevens Henager Business College in Salt Lake City.

He served in the Army during World War I. After the war, he farmed near Malad at New Canyon.

On January 5, 1927 he married Nellie Sasser in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

They owned a service station and later built an automobile and implement building in Malad which he operated until his retirement in 1968.

As a young man, he was known for his skill as a baseball player and he played in the Utah-Idaho Minor League.

He served in the Idaho State Legislature, was a district commissioner for the Boy Scouts of America, had served many years as a Scout Master and had later received a Silver Beaver award.

He was an active member in the LDS Church, had served as Bishop for 13 years, High Counselor for 21 years, on the Stake MIA board and had held various other positions. He was also a temple worker in the Logan LDS Temple and later served with his wife in the Provo Temple.

Survivors include three sons and three daughters, J. Guy Gleed, Jr., Provo; Darl S. Gleed, Honolulu, Hawaii; Blair L. Gleed, Seattle, WA; Mrs. Bruce R. (Joyce) Knight, Denver, CO; Mrs. Barry (Diane) Treasure, Idaho Falls; Mrs. Terry (Joan) Bromon, Seattle, WA; 24 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one brother, Ern Gleed, Malad; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Geraghty, Reno, NV; and Mrs. Robert (Pearl) Sorensen, Big Bear City, CA.

Funeral services will be held December 6, 1984 in the Provo LDS 17th Ward Chapel, with Bishop Glen Ellis, officiating. Military graveside rites will be held that same day at the Malad City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home in Malad.
