Josephine Deschamps Jones

JOSEPHINE D. JONES

Funeral services were held Monday at the St. John L.D.S. ward chapel for Mrs. Josephine Deschamps Jones, 86, who died in Salt Lake City June 25th (1959).

First Counselor Nolan Blaisdell of the St. John ward officiated at the services. Family prayer was offered by Bishop Morgan Harris; invocation, Bishop Harold Jones; benediction, Clifford Jones; dedicatory prayer, Bishop Melvin Yearsley. The obituary was given by Nolan Blaisdell; remarks given by two grandsons, Norman Jones and Jay Lynn Stayner; also by Dr. Thos. W. Richards. Musical numbers were prelude and postlude by Cherrel Budge; vocal solo, Helen E. Jones; organ selection, Wesley Crowther. Flowers were carried by the St. John Ward Relief Society and Daughters of Idaho Pioneers. Casket bearers were Mrs. Jones’ sons.

Interment was at the St. John Cemetery under the direction of the Benson Funeral Homes.

Mrs. Jones was born May 6, 1873, in St. John, a daughter of Louis and Ann Stephens Deschamps. She attended school at St. John and also the Malad Stake Academy. Active in music circles, she had studied voice with her uncle, Prof. Evan Stephens.

She married Evan G. Jones, Dec. 8, 1891, in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served many positions in various organizations in the Malad Stake and St. John ward.

Six sons and three daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Jones and following her husband’s death in 1921, Mrs. Jones reared seven unmarried children.

She lived at her home in St. John most of her life until the past 15 years when she lived with her daughter, Mrs. W. R. Nielsen, and the past several years has resided with her son, Dr. L. Mitchel Jones, in Salt Lake City.

Surviving her are the following sons and daughters: Evan G. Jones, Mrs. Josephine Yearsley, Mrs. Sarah Ann Stayner, Malad; Mrs. Rosalie Nielsen, Redwood City, California; Golden K. Jones, San Carlos, Calif.; Marion D. Jones, Seattle, Washington; Reuel, Provo; John D. and Dr. L. Mitchell Jones of Salt Lake City; 34 grandchildren and 67 great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother.
