FUNERAL SERVICES FOR JOSEPH THORPE

Funeral services for Joseph Thorpe, 74, who died December 13, 1959 at his home in Ogden were held at the Colonial Chapel Wednesday. Burial was at the Malad City Cemetery.

Bishop LeGrande Stewart conducted the services. Carl Torgenson and Austin Shaw offered prayers. Speakers were Hubert Gleed, Wayne Gunnell and LaGrande Stewart. Nolan Taylor sang a solo and Sarah Ann Gunnell played a violin number. Accompanists were Clair Anderson, who also played the prelude and postlude, and Norma Gunnell.

Casket bearers were nephews, Lynn Thorpe, Tommy Thorpe, Clyde Thorpe, Roger Hartley, Clem Thorpe and Blair Thorpe. Lawrence Budge dedicated the grave.

Mr. Thorpe was born at Samaria in 1885, a son of Joseph and Mary Mason Thorpe. He married Lucy Davis on October 15, 1913 in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He lived at Malad where he was a rancher until his retirement in 1947 when he moved to Ogden. He was a member of the Ogden 43rd LDS Ward and had served a mission for the LDS Church in the Swiss-German mission from 1909-1912.

Survivors include his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Lloyd I. Alvord, Ogden; Mrs. C.E. Bronchinsky, Mrs. A.L. Grimm, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Newell B. Cutler, Roy, UT; ten grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters, Thomas Thorpe, Edgar Thorpe, Wm. Thorpe, Mrs. Joseph Josephson, Malad; Mrs. Myrtie Facer, North Pocatello; Mrs. Clarence J. Hartley, Mrs. Anna T. Jones, Ogden; Mrs. Chris Christiansen, Layton.
