Joseph Robert May, 75, of Pleasantview, passed away Friday, May 30, 1997 at his home.
He was born Dec. 20, 1921, in Malad, a son of Robert Marion and Grace Davis May. He grew up and was educated in Malad.
During WW11 he served in the army as an MP, and was stationed in the Middle East. Joe was recalled to the Korean War in 1950 and served as an MP in Fort Lewis, Wash.
He married Josephine Scott on March 7, 1946 in Malad, and their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple on Dec. 27, 1951. Since their marriage, they have lived in Pleasantview, where Joe has farmed and operated a dairy.
Joe has been an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he has served in many capacities through the years. He was Dairy Farmer of the Year and also served on the Cache Valley Dairy Board for many years. Joe was also a member of the American Legion VFW and served as chairman of the Pleasantview Cemetery Board.
Is love in life was his family and his dairy. Joe was a friend to all he met, and he will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Josephine, of Pleasantview, one son, R. Kelly May of Riverdale, Utah; 12 grandchildren: Monica Jo, Wendy, Kelly, Danton, Jody, Casey, Jessica, Amanda, Jacob, Jennifer, Jessie and Eric; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald L. May of Murray, Utah; four sisters, Mabel Tufts of Sandy, Utah; Helen Nelson of West Valley, Utah; Wanda Hughes of Malad and Shirley Irvine of Holladay, Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 2 at 12 noon in the Malad LDS Second Ward Chapel, 20 South 100 West. Friends may call at the Benson Horsley Funeral Home, 132 West 300 North, this evening from 6-8 p.m. and on Monday at the funeral home from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Pleasantview Cemetery, with military rites by the Malad American Legion Ernest W. Jones Post #65.
