J. M. Isaacson. Church, Civic Leader, Dies at 71
A veteran Idaho legislator, church and civic leader, Joseph Martin Isaacson, 71, died at the Oneida Hospital in Malad, Tuesday, October 27th, about 5 p.m. following a long illness.
Mr. Isaacson was born in Pleasant View September 17, 1893, a son of Isaac and Josephine Mortenson Isaacson. He was reared and educated in Oneida County, where he served in both Church and civic positions.
An active member of the LDS Church, Mr. Isaacson served as bishop of the Pleasant View Ward from 1934 to 1940 and also held positions of Stake High councilman, High Priest president, ward Sunday School superintendent, stake mutual board officer, ward mutual officer and Sunday school teacher. He also served an LDS mission in the western states in 1925-26.
He was married to Leora Ipsen March 15, 1916, in the Salt Lake Temple. She died March 18, 1917. He later married Jetta Ipsen, April 1, 1921 in the Salt Lake Temple.
Representing Oneida County in Boise, Mr. Isaacson served as state senator during sessions of 1925, 1929 and 1931 and as state representative from 1950-52. Among other offices and memberships held were state land commissioner, 1930-32; state tax study committee 1952-54; Scoutmaster; member of the Oneida Hospital board; veterans’ vocational agriculture instructor, 1948-51; Soil Conservation officer both state and district. Mr. Isaacson was a veteran of World War I.
Survivors include his widow, four sons and three daughters: Carl J. Stanley, Mrs. Gloria (Margaret) Swindle, Malad; Isaac Dale, San Jose, California; Joseph Lynn, Castle Dale, Utah; Mrs. Mario (Marie) DeLuca, Ogden; Mrs. Dale (Rula) Fuhriman, Taylor, B. C., Canada; 22 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday in the Pleasant View LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Roger Facer officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Friends may call at the family home, Route 1, Malad, Thursday evening and Friday prior to services.
