Don Thomas

Joseph Don Thomas, 47, a Malad resident and cattle buyer, died Friday, March 27,1992, at the University of Utah Medical Center of heart failure following surgery for a successful kidney transplant.

He was born in Malad on January 5, 1945, a son of William R. and Dora Rose Thomas. He grew up in the Malad area where he lived most of his life. He graduated from Malad High School, and had served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam war.

He married Loryne Richards November 25, 1966. They were later separated. He loved horses, rodeos, fishing, camping and hunting with his sons. He was a member of the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65 in Malad.

He is survived by four sons, Stacy Don, Pocatello, Corey Del, Todd Darin and Clint Dee, all of Malad; a grandson, Tyler Thomas, of Snowville, Utah; his mother, Dora Thomas, of Malad; two sisters, Mrs. Manuel (Marilyn) Mata, and Doreen Thomas; two brothers, Delbert Leavitt and Lamont Thomas, all of Malad; and a special friend, Emily Hone of Blackfoot. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Lyle Leavitt.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at noon in the St. John LDS Ward Chapel, Bishop Rex Daniels officiating. Burial was in the St. John Cemetery, with military rites by the American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65.
