Joseph Cloyd Morris, 77, died June 9, 1997 at Godfrey’s Foothill Retreat in Brigham City. He was born September 1, 1919 in Portage, a son of David William and Susannah Green Morris. He married Vera Richards, November 10, 1945 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple, November 14, 1966.
Joseph was reared and educated in Portage and attended Bear River High School. He worked for Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years.
He was a High Priest in the Portage LDS Ward and served as Sunday School Superintendent, Home Teacher, and in the Elders Quorum Presidency. Joseph was a veteran of World War 11 where he had served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army in Germany, Austria and Africa from 1942-1945.
Surviving are his wife of Portage, three daughters, two sons and their spouses: Linda (Jim) Yarman, West Point; Jeri (Don) Thorsen, North Ogden; Marsha (Thayne) Hupp, Hansel Valley; Walter (Stacie) Morris, West Weber; Vaughn (Linda Jo) Morris, Tremonton; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving is one sister, LaVona Lamb, Plymouth.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; one daughter-in-law, Jacqueline W. Morris; four brothers: David Marvin, John R., Arthur, and Glen Morris; three sisters: Azella Gibbs, Leah Merrell and Vereen John.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 12, 1997, at the Portage Ward Chapel. Interment in the Portage Cemetery.
