John W. Clark (Birth – 27 Aug 1892)

MALAD—John Williams Clark, 62, former Oneida County school teacher and attorney died yesterday (1954 or 1955) at Oneida County Hospital after a lingering illness.

Active in civic affairs, Mr. Clark was a member of the Malad Chamber of Commerce, Eagles, Masonic Lodge and the Idaho State Bar Assn.

He was born Aug 27, 1892, at Malad, a son of John and Matilda Williams Clark. He was reared and educated at Malad and taught in the Oneida County Schools from 1914 to 1919.

He graduated from the University of Idaho in 1923 and opened his law practice that year.

He married Emma Elizabeth Powell June 5, 1916, at Malad. He was an elder in the LDS Church.

Survivors include his widow, of Malad, and one daughter, Emma Jean Wright, Salt Lake City; four grandchildren and two brothers, William D. and E. Lynn Clark, both of Malad.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Malad Third Ward chapel with Bishop Colen Sweeten Jr. officiating.

Friends may call at the family home, 224 N. 1st West St., Monday evening and Tuesday prior to services.

Interment will be in Malad cemetery under direction of the Benson Funeral Home.

FUNERAL SERVICES FOR JOHN W. CLARK

Funeral services for John Williams Clark, 62, who died Saturday at the Oneida Hospital after a long illness, were conducted Tuesday at the Malad Third ward chapel with Bishop Colen Sweeten Jr. of the Fourth ward officiating.

Mr. Clark, a son of John and Matilda Williams Clark, was born August 27, 1892 in Malad. Reared and educated in Malad, he attend the University of Idaho and was graduated in 1923 with a degree in law. He practiced law and taught school in Oneida county, served as city attorney for many years and was Oneida county attorney at the time of his death. He was married to Emma Elizabeth Powell at Malad on June 5, 1916. A member of the LDS Church, Mr. Clark was an advisor to the Oneida County Selective Service Board, member of the Malad Chamber of Commerce, Eagles, Masonic Lodge and of the Idaho State Bar Association.

Survivors include his widow, Malad, one daughter, Mrs. Emma Jean Wright, Salt Lake City; four grandchildren; two brothers, Lynn and Wm. D. Clark, both of Malad.

Speakers at the service were W. W. Thomas, Dr. Thos. W. Richards and Bishop Sweeten who also gave the obituary. Musical numbers consisted of prelude and postlude music, Emma Spencer Ward; vocal solo, Keith Evans; vocal duet, Mr. and Mrs. J. Guy Gleed; song, Ward brothers. Graveside ritual at the Malad cemetery was conducted by the A.F. & A.M. Lodge No. 51. Casket bearers were Henry W. Thomas, Orval Williams, Lawrence D. Jones, William Colton, George Daniels Jr. and Ralph H. Jones. Prayer at the home was offered by U. H. Conley; invocation, Colen Sweeten Sr.; benediction, D. LeRoy Thomas; dedicatory prayer, J. Guy Benson.
